Life in a drop of pond water. This was inspired by the pond life exhibit at the Ruthven Exhibit Museum at the University of Michigan, where I used to work. This was my second favorite diorama next to the Life Through the Ages room. Gives me warm fuzzies just thinking about it.

Here's a numbered description of the featured organisms: [link]

This is so freakin cool. Water bears, man! There's so much beautiful life too small to see, but you can draw them and show us all the same. :) Keep up all the awesome work

thanks. Glad you like it. I'm endlessly fascinated by the huge variety of microscopic creatures that lie right under our feet.

Awesome! I first thought it was one of your xenobiological paintings. There´s no need to say that "microscopic nature" looks quite xenobiological =)

Nice. I love these microbial bestiaries.

I surprised you've never done any pictures featuring diatoms or radiolarians.

I was going to put some in this piece, but I ran out of room. I'm thinking I'll do another microscopic piece sometime and include them; there are so many neat protists that I could do several dozen of these.
