Horned Spider by NocturnalSea Horned Spider by NocturnalSea
A couple folks mentioned this spider in some of my earlier posts, so here it is at last-- Gasteracantha arcuata, the Horned Spider. Found throughout South-East Asia and southern India.

Although I haven't been able to find information that explains exactly what the horns are for, I'd assumed they evolved to make it difficult for a predator to consume this spider.

That's quite possible. There are a lot of animals that have developed really weird appearances just so they don't look like a spider/bird/caterpillar/octopus/whatever.

Maybe they evolved these horns for wi-fi?
